Y7 WW1 Informal Letter Writing
Objectives:
1) DIRT: Identify your personalized writing target/s
and highlight where you think you hit them in your last piece of work.
2) Discuss what it would have been like in the
trenches at the front line.
3) Create a letter home describing what it is like
at the front line in the trenches, making sure you work on hitting your
personal target.
WW1 Literacy Starter:
In your books, turn these sentences in complex sentence:

STARTER: As a class, listen to the WW1 trench audios.
In pairs, discuss how you would have felt if you were there.
What would it have been like to live in
trenches during WW1?

how you would have to be sent over the top.
MAIN
PART 1:
DIRT/literacy: pupils look at their
personalized targets from their writing test and write them at the top of a new
page. Under this, pupils write the title: ‘Letter from the Front.’

PART 2:
Pupils will work individually to create a letter home describing
what it is like at the front line in the trenches, making sure they work on
hitting their personal target.
PLENARY: Pupils will self-assess their work
through highlighting where they have hit their main targets so I/and they can
see how/where they have improved.
